Yale University Library joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome Yale University Library as its newest Full Member.

With a digital preservation program in progress since 2013, the Library has a large volume of digital assets to preserve and an active community of stakeholders who are invested in their long-term preservation.

The Library team is currently working to make emulation and software preservation ‘business as usual’ activities in which everyone doing digital preservation can easily participate, as well as considering plans to fund and grow future activities around research data preservation, and  managing challenges with automating preservation and maintaining access to research data.

The UK National Archives is making available funding focused on empowering archives to use creativity and innovation in developing ideas and solutions, and on encouraging the work of networks, leading to outcomes that will make a real difference to archives in the UK.

The Collaborate and Innovate funding programme consists of two schemes: the Archive Testbed fund and the Networks for Change fund. Both schemes support a drive towards innovative practice, the development of new ideas, and collaborative approaches to problem solving.

FAIRsFAIR Open Call for Data Repositories

Would you like to get dedicated support for your data repository to contribute to a culture change necessary to achieve wide adoption of FAIR practices within the EOSC and beyond?

The FAIRsFAIR project started to work on practical solutions for the use of the FAIR data principles throughout the research data life cycle. Emphasis is on fostering FAIR data culture and the uptake of good practices in making data FAIR. FAIRsFAIR will play a key role in the development of standards for FAIR Certification of repositories and their data holdings, contributing to policies and practices that will turn the EOSC programme into a functioning infrastructure.

Call for nominations to the 2019 edition of the ‘BitList’ of Digitally Endangered Species

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is inviting the digital preservation community around the world to submit nominations for its 2019 edition of the ‘BitList.’

The Bit List is the DPC’s Global List of Digitally Endangered Species. Nominations to the BitList are being sought through the summer before being published on World Digital Preservation Day (WDPD2019) on 7th November 2019.

The ‘BitList’ highlights the need for action to preserve high-value digital content that is critically endangered, whilst celebrating the progress the digital preservation community has made to ensure a secure digital legacy.

Invitation to join the ARCHIVER Early Adopters Programme

Do you struggle to archive and preserve research data? Are your data stewardship costs exploding? 

The ARCHIVER project aims to introduce significant improvements in the areas of archiving and digital preservation services, supporting the demanding IT requirements of European researchers by developing end-to-end archival and preservation services for data. ARCHIVER will use a Pre-Commercial Procurement process, where consortia will be selected through an open tender process. The bidding consortia will be asked to perform R&D to develop data archiving and preservation cloud based services complementing the current on-premise services of a group of procuring organisations, called “the Buyers Group”.
