The search for the very best work in digital preservation has begun again this year, with the launch of the Digital Preservation Awards 2026!
Organized by the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) every two years, the prestigious Digital Preservation Awards is the most prominent celebration of achievement for those people and organizations who have made significant contributions towards a sustainable future for our digital assets. Entry to the Digital Preservation Awards 2026 is free and open to organizations, projects and individuals at all stages of their digital preservation journey, all around the world – and you do not have to be a DPC member to participate.
The Digital Preservation Awards is open for nominations until Tuesday 5 May and will culminate in a sparkling ceremony on Thursday 15 October 2026, with full details of the venue to be announced shortly!
Speaking after the awards ceremony in 2024, Alejandra Ibarra Chaoul of the DDLD Living Archive project, winner of the Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy, said: “We are so touched to receive this award. Our motivation has always been to remember and honour the work of journalists killed in Mexico, to study their work and, in doing so, hopefully help prevent more of this violence. This award helps bring greater attention to that work.”
Finalists and winners of the Digital Preservation Awards often enjoy a greater profile within the digital preservation community, with individuals and organizations finding themselves in a much stronger position for further funding and future development.

In 2026, the Digital Preservation Awards invites nominations in the following categories, including an exciting new Award:

The Award for Collaboration and Cooperation, celebrating significant collaboration across institutional, professional, sectoral and geographical boundaries which have had a demonstrable and positive impact on digital preservation.

The Award for Research and Innovation, recognizing excellence in practical research and innovation activities.

The Award for Teaching and Communications, recognizing excellence in outreach, training and advocacy.

The Award for the Most Distinguished Student Work in Digital Preservation, encouraging and recognizing student work in digital preservation.

The Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy, celebrating the practical application of preservation tools to protect at-risk digital objects.

The Award for the Most Outstanding Digital Preservation Initiative in Commerce, Industry and the Third Sector, encouraging and recognizing the adoption of digital preservation tools and approaches in an organization that is not explicitly a memory institution.

The Award for Resilience, Maintenance, and Continuity, a new category for 2026, celebrating efforts that support and maintain critical infrastructure for digital preservation services and systems, ensuring the integrity and resilience of digital preservation workflows.
Winners will receive a trophy to be retained by the recipient’s institution, certificates for participating individuals, and a £1000 cash prize except for the Award for the Most Distinguished Student Work in Digital Preservation which offers a travel grant covering the costs of attendance at an international conference in 2027.

La búsqueda de los mejores trabajos en preservación digital ha comenzado de nuevo este año, con el lanzamiento de los Premios a la Preservación Digital 2026.
Organizados por la Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) cada dos años, los prestigiosos Premios a la Preservación Digital son la celebración más destacada de los logros de personas y organizaciones que han contribuido de forma significativa a un futuro sostenible para nuestros materiales digitales.
La participación en los Premios a la Preservación Digital 2026 es gratuita y está abierta a organizaciones, proyectos y individuos de todo el mundo que se encuentren en cualquier fase de su proceso de preservación digital, y no es necesario ser miembro de la DPC para participar.
Los Premios a la Preservación Digital están abiertos a candidaturas hasta el martes 5 de mayo y culminarán con una brillante ceremonia el jueves 15 de octubre de 2026, cuyos detalles completos sobre el lugar de celebración se anunciarán en breve.

En 2026, los Premios a la Preservación Digital invitan a presentar candidaturas en las siguientes categorías, incluida una nueva categoría:

El Premio a la Colaboración y la Cooperación, que celebra la colaboración significativa a través de las fronteras institucionales, profesionales, sectoriales y geográficas que haya tenido un impacto demostrable y positivo en la preservación digital.

El Premio de Investigación e Innovación, que reconoce la excelencia en actividades prácticas de investigación e innovación.

El Premio a la Enseñanza y la Comunicación, que recompensa la excelencia en materia de divulgación, formación y promoción.

El Premio a la Salvaguardia del Legado Digital, que recompensa la aplicación práctica de herramientas de preservación para proteger objetos digitales en peligro.

El Premio a la iniciativa de preservación digital más destacada en el comercio, la industria y el tercer sector, que fomenta y reconoce la adopción de herramientas y enfoques de preservación digital en una organización que no sea explícitamente una institución de memoria.

El Premio a la Resiliencia, el Mantenimiento y la Continuidad, una nueva categoría para 2026, que celebra los esfuerzos destinados a apoyar y mantener infraestructuras críticas para los servicios y sistemas de preservación digital, garantizando la integridad y la resiliencia de los flujos de trabajo de preservación digital.
