DPC opens new office in Melbourne, Australia

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has started 2020 with the opening of a new office, at the University of Melbourne. This presence will enable improved access to the DPC’s programme of activities for members and digital preservation practitioners across the southern hemisphere; helping support, represent and amplify the work of a very active digital preservation community in the region, as well as enabling institutions at all stages of maturity in the digital preservation journey.

The initiative is the result of a strategic partnership between DPC and the University of Melbourne, and the office will be staffed by Jaye Weatherburn who has been seconded to the DPC.

Amy currieThe Digital Preservation Coalition is delighted to welcome Amy Currie to its staff, in the role of Training Officer.

Amy will manage training and skills services for members, covering the work of Sharon McMeekin – the DPC’s Head of Workforce Development - as she delivers the Novice to Ninja project with colleagues from The UK National Archives.

“Amy will help us continue to provide opportunities for our members to acquire, develop and retain competent and responsive workforces that are ready to address the challenges of digital preservation,” explains Sharon. “We’re very pleased to have her on board!”

Novice to Ninja: The UK National Archives and DPC to deliver online digital preservation training

The National Archives in the UK and the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) are collaborating in a project called ‘Novice to Ninja’, which will make online digital preservation training available to practitioners around the world later this year. The project is part of The National Archives’ new digital capacity building strategy, ‘Plugged In, Powered Up’.

Researched, developed and tested by experts within the digital preservation community, the Novice to Ninja training will be practically focused, aiming to equip learners with the skills required to implement a simple and proactive digital preservation workflow within their organization.

Call for Conference Hosts: iPRES 2023, 2024, 2025

iPRES has evolved into the main international conference on the preservation of digital objects. Having been held annually since 2004 in places all around the world, with iPRES2020 coming up in Beijing, China in Sep. 22-24 2020, iPRES2021 in Illinois, USA, Oct. 19-22 2021, and iPRES 2022 in Glasgow, Scotland, Sep. 12-16 2022, respectively, iPRES is now inviting bids by prospective conference hosts to run iPRES 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The National Library of Luxembourg launches

The National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) has announced the launch of the website, an information platform for the web archiving initiative for the Luxembourg web and access point for researching websites archived by the BnL.

In accordance with the Luxembourg legal deposit, the BnL collects and preserves websites from the « .lu » domain and other sites published by Luxembourg residents. Regular domain crawls are operated in cooperation with the Internet Archive. In addition, curated collections around specific events such as the 2017 local, 2018 national and 2019 European elections can be discovered on, as well as thematic collections around cultural festivals in Luxembourg and the recent departure of HRH Jean, Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
