The Digital Preservation Coalition celebrates 20 years since its foundation this week!

Officially launched in February 2002, the DPC was charged with fostering joint action to address the urgent challenges of securing the preservation of digital resources in the UK and to work with others internationally to secure our global digital memory and knowledge base.

The DPC renews its leadership each year allowing members to guide and review our programmes.  We are pleased to announce a number of changes at the start of this exciting 20^th Anniversary year:

The University of Melbourne and the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding today which will see the continuation of the DPC’s Melbourne Office and the provision of operational support for the digital preservation community across Australasia and Asia Pacific for the foreseeable future.

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to share an Italian translation of its Rapid Assessment Model (RAM), with thanks to Giulia Brecciaroli at the British Library and Elena Nepoti at Imperial War Museums in the UK who generously donated their time to make the resource accessible.

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), in conjunction with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) in the UK, has made its new EDRMS Preservation Toolkit available on general release today, following a 6-month Member preview.

Developed by the DPC’s EDRMS Preservation Task Force, the Toolkit offers advice on the preservation of records held within an Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS) or other record keeping systems. Providing general information and guidance on areas that should be considered in order to define an effective approach to this challenge, the Toolkit applies to current systems in use, legacy systems that are falling out of use, and systems that are being procured for the future.

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has released a Member Preview of a new Technology Watch Report on Preserving Born-Digital Design and Construction Records by Aliza Leventhal and Jody Thompson, today.

Preserving Born-Digital Design and Construction Records aims to support archival professionals, as well as active designers and facilities managers, considering acquisition, preservation, and access approaches that account for both the technical and cultural components of the broad range of born-digital design and construction records created throughout the course of designing, building, and maintaining a built space.
