World Digital Preservation Day 2025 (WDPD2025) is coming up on Thursday 6th November, and we are excited to launch a new global campaign as part of the celebrations. To make it a success, we need your help, DPC Members!
This year’s World Digital Preservation Day theme is ‘Why Preserve?’ and we would like to feature our members’ voices as part of this campaign. We are asking you to share your organisation’s unique reasons for preserving digital collections - your “why” - so we can showcase the diversity of perspectives across the community and inspire others to take action!
Your reasons could be:
-
…Because in a world of misinformation, digital preservation protects the integrity of our records, research, and history.
-
…Because digital preservation ensures that the stories, cultures, and knowledge of today remain accessible for generations to come.
-
…Because preserving digital records is essential for compliance, accountability, and transparency in every sector.
-
…Because when systems fail or staff change, preserved digital assets ensure your organization retains its memory - and its momentum.
-
…Because digital preservation bridges generations and geographies, making knowledge and culture accessible to all.
-
…Because data loss is costly. Preservation is a proactive strategy to mitigate risk and protect value.
-
…Because digital preservation is about sustainability, adaptability and long-term thinking - not just storage!
DPC Members are exclusively invited to contribute in one (or more!) of these ways:
-
Write a blog post
Tell us why your organisation has chosen to preserve its digital assets and why it matters to you. -
Record a short vlog
Share why you preserve your collections, data, or content via a video blog.(We'll be asking you to include the phrase “We preserve because…” as we may use short clips in the campaign) -
Send us a short testimonial
A concise quote about your organisation’s “why” that we can feature in graphics and social media posts on the day.
We’ve prepared a document with specifications for each format so we can make the best use of your contributions. These guidelines, including details on how to submit your contributions, are available on our Google Drive. We kindly invite you to share your blogs, vlogs, and written testimonials with us by Monday, 6 October.
World Digital Preservation Day is a global celebration, and by sharing your “why” with the world, you’ll help highlight the many reasons why digital preservation matters!
