The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is pleased to announce that SRUC has joined the Coalition as its newest Associate Member.
SRUC is a specialist tertiary education, research and consultancy institution focused on the natural economy. Established in 2012 through the merger of several historic agricultural and land-based institutions, its roots stretch back more than a century. Today, the college brings together education, research and industry expertise, working collaboratively to build a sustainable future for the natural economy and to help address global challenges including climate change, food security and biodiversity loss.
SRUC’s Archive preserves institutional records relating to the college and its predecessors, with collections dating back to the late 19th century. Since 2016, the Archives Service has been working to integrate, arrange and catalogue these collections - including identifying and listing some of the oldest and most vulnerable materials - to safeguard them and make them more widely accessible to researchers, students, staff and the public.
Commenting on the new membership, Elaine Muir, Library Services Lead at SRUC, said:
“At SRUC, we are ambitious for our services to meet the highest professional standards. As we continue to grow our collections, we want to ensure that they remain discoverable and securely preserved for the future. By joining the DPC, we look forward to drawing on its expertise and resources, learning from fellow members and contributing our own experiences to the wider digital preservation community.”
SRUC’s membership further strengthens the DPC’s expanding global network of organisations working to safeguard long-term access to digital content and promote good practice in digital preservation.

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, tailored support and consultancy, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
