The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to announce that the Archives of the Council of the European Union have joined as its newest Associate Member.
The Archives of the Council of the European Union preserve the institutional memory of both the Council of the European Union and the European Council, storing and providing access to historical files dating back to the first Council meeting in 1952. Their collections offer a unique opportunity to retrace the Council’s history and its role in European integration.
By joining the DPC, the Council Archives connect with an international community of digital preservation practitioners committed to ensuring long-term access to digital records of enduring value.
Enrico Giunta, Digital Archivist at the Archives of the Council of the European Union, said:
“The Archives of the Council of the European Union are pleased to join the Digital Preservation Coalition. As a service dedicated to preserving and providing access to records that document the Council’s role in European integration, we are committed to safeguarding the institutional memory of the European Union, making it accessible to citizens and researchers alike, and ensuring we are well prepared to meet the digital preservation challenges of the future.”
Jane Winters, Chair of the Digital Preservation Coalition, added:
“We are very pleased to welcome the Archives of the Council of the European Union into our global community. Institutions charged with preserving records of such enduring political, administrative, and historical significance have much to contribute to the wider digital preservation field. We look forward to the insight, experience, and collaboration the Council Archives will bring.”
