The V&A is pleased to announce a new doctoral placement opportunity for the 2025–2026 academic year. Applications close on Friday 30 May 2025. As part of our commitment to supporting early-career researchers, the V&A offers a range of doctoral placements designed in collaboration with museum staff. These placements provide PhD students with opportunities to contribute to live research projects while gaining hands-on experience with collections, archives, and museum innovation.
This placement will support the development of digital care and access frameworks at the V&A. The researcher will work on one of the following:
– A risk-based assessment tool to support curators in the pre-acquisition phase of born-digital, hybrid, or time-based media
– An evaluative framework for digital and time-based media access in the new Digital Study Room at V&A East Storehouse
– A best-practice model for the care of digital objects requiring power to retain meaning, including guidance on condition checking and activation in storage
