Archaeology Data Service, Department of Archaeology



This is an opportunity to join the Archaeology Data Service – the UK’s only accredited digital repository for heritage data - and to undertake the archiving and dissemination of the digital data from some of the country’s most important archaeological fieldwork projects. You will accession and index data collections, validate data and carry out conversion into different formats, curating and migrating digital collections. You will be expected to design, develop and maintain user interfaces and webpages, prepare and maintain documentation, and to liaise with clients in the public and private sectors.


Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You should have a degree in relevant subject area (for example, but not limited to: Archaeology, Computing Science, Digital Heritage, Digital Preservation) AND/OR experience of work in the historic environment or digital archives sector for a minimum of 12 months.

Knowledge of file formats and data standards, approaches and best practice in digital preservation is essential and you should have experience of working with an organisational Database Management System (Oracle, PostGreSQL, MySQL) and a proven ability to manipulate data across a range of software applications and file formats. You will need good communication skills, an ability to organise your own schedule and work on your own initiative, and to work as part of a team, identifying internal needs and providing information and case studies to senior colleagues.

You will maintain high professional and personal standards; be willing to keep updated, learn new skills and receive relevant training, and be adaptable to change. It is essential that you are willing to work away from the office.
