£24,715 - £26,642 a year

Fixed Term

The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) provides digital data archiving services for UK archaeology. It is based in the University of York but works closely with external partners, both in Higher Education and in the public and commercial archaeological sectors. All archived data is available Open Access and ADS funding is equally split between data deposit charges and research and consultancy, including a number of international projects. The ADS also manages the highly regarded Open Access journal, Internet Archaeology. Currently around 15 staff are employed. The Digital Archives Assistant role is envisaged as a fixed term trainee role for 3 years. It is anticipated that the post-holder will spend much of their time focussed on the archiving of the digital outputs of commercial archaeology projects, but there will be opportunities to be involved in ADS research projects. Secondments will be considered. It is expected that the post-holder will use the experience they gain in order to pursue a career in this field, or to apply ICT skills in their existing employment (if on secondment). Knowledge of the historic environment sector in the UK is desirable but NOT essential for the role.
