The way research is done is changing. Scientific processes are becoming more open and Open Access to papers and data promises to accelerate innovation and enable a new paradigm of data-driven science.

This new role will shape and lead the strategic development of services that meet the changing requirements of researchers given the move to Open Access to publications and data in science, and oversee the ongoing operational provision of the current library services.  The post holder will drive the design and delivery of services associated with scholarly communications, open access, research data management, research metrics and digital preservation to meet the needs of a globally important research community effectively and efficiently.

The STFC National Laboratories provide research facilities and capabilities that, because of their scale, are operated as a national research resource. These facilities support leading edge science in biology, chemistry, physics, materials and engineering. The range of materials studied ranges from biomolecules to nanomagnets, and from ancient Greek helmets to chocolate. STFC’s facilities are used by more than 3,500 users each year, carrying out over 2,000 experiments and generating around 900 publications.
