WDPD2026 logo landscape EnglishGet your calendars ready, your stories lined up and perhaps your baking tins out: World Digital Preservation Day is just one week away! On Thursday 5 November 2026, our global community will come together to celebrate digital preservation and the people who make it happen.

This year’s theme, ‘Save Our Stories (SOS): Our Digital Heritage in Danger’, gives the celebrations a shared purpose: to highlight what is at risk and inspire action. What better occasion to show colleagues, friends and decision-makers why your work matters?

A world of events to explore

From preserving community languages in the Pacific to protecting the fragile web, this year’s events offer plenty to discover. Hear from the PARADISEC team, explore digital memory with the Bodleian Libraries, or learn about preserving creative work and research with NYU Libraries.

The DPC Workforce Development team will also present at NDSA DigiPres 2026, exploring the workforce we need to save our stories. And the activities begin before the Day itself, with Blue Shield Ireland hosting a talk on digital cultural heritage and cyberwarfare on 3 November.

Browse the WDPD Global Events list and plan your celebrations! Organizing something too? Send the details to angela.puggioni@dpconline.org so we can add your event to the WDPD web pages.

Stories, creativity and a little cake

There’s room for everyone to take part. Share a preservation success with your colleagues, organize a metadata workshop, write about a digipres challenge or show the public what happens behind the scenes. We’ll be sharing community blogs and news through the DPC website and social media.

If you are feeling creative: bake an endangered digital material, crochet a file format or turn a preservation process into Lego. Share your creations using #WDPD2026 - and #bakeoff for your edible contributions!

The DPC will also issue a Bit List Snapshot report, capturing current contexts and emerging developments affecting endangered digital materials.

Add some WDPD spirit

Planning a webinar, team gathering or coffee break? Our WDPD Event Pack can help you prepare. Pick up presentation slides to introduce the Day, logo backgrounds for your online event, and digital preservation BINGO to get everyone talking. You’ll also find resources to help those conversations continue afterwards. And let's not forget about the logo in more than 40 languages! This year we're introducing the logo in Yorùbá, one of Nigeria's languages.

Whether you’re hosting, presenting, reading, baking or simply joining the conversation, make 5 November a date to celebrate the work we do together.
