As we count down to the Digital Preservation Awards ceremony on 15 October, our finalist video series continues! Today, the DPC invites you to meet the people safeguarding digital materials at risk and hear the stories behind their work.

The Awards, organized by the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), celebrate achievement across eight categories. This time, we turn to the Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy, sponsored by The National Archives (UK), which recognizes the practical application of preservation tools to protect at-risk digital materials.

The three outstanding finalist projects show why this work matters, safeguarding public data, archaeological records and personal testimonies:

  • Data Rescue Project brings people together to preserve at-risk US federal datasets and keep them accessible.

  • The Tutankhamun Spatial Archive connects excavation records in a searchable digital resource, safeguarding documentation of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.

  • Archive of Personal Testimonies: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine preserves eyewitness accounts for research, journalism, human rights work and the historical record.

Behind each project are people working to ensure that important evidence remains available for the future. Take a few minutes to hear them introduce their work and explain what they are protecting.

The winner will be revealed at the Digital Preservation Awards ceremony in Warsaw on Thursday 15 October 2026, hosted by FINA as part of the No Time to Wait 10 conference. Join the celebrations online from 16:00–17:15 UTC (18:00–19:15 in Warsaw), with the livestream available on the Digital Preservation Awards page on the day.

Keep an eye out for more finalist videos as we count down to the ceremony!
