The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has launched the final installment in its three-part Technology Watch Guidance Note series on Cyber Security and Resilience for Digital Preservation. Available initially as an exclusive preview for DPC Members from today, the series will be released publicly on 31 August 2026.
Part 3 ‘Respond’ focuses on the practical actions organizations can take to strengthen cyber resilience within digital preservation programs. The report translates cyber security principles into day-to-day preservation practice, offering recommendations for securely handling removable media, high-risk file formats, unprocessed collections, open-source tools, supply chain risks, and emerging AI-related threats.
Heather Lowrie, Director of Resilionix and co-author of the report, said:

The Cyber Security and Resilience for Digital Preservation series supports organizations in responding to an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape by providing practical guidance that connects digital preservation and cyber security. Together, the three Guidance Notes help practitioners and organizational leaders understand cyber risks, engage stakeholders, and develop effective approaches to protecting digital collections while maintaining long-term access.
The Technology Watch publication series is just one of the ways the DPC supports the digital preservation community.
