A sustainable future for our digital assets: DPC launches a new Strategic Plan and Prospectus

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) launches A sustainable future for our digital assets, a new Strategic Plan for 2022 – 2027 today, alongside an accompanying program of new activities for the next 12 months.
Following a series of consultations with the DPC board, Member organizations and Supporters, the DPC’s new Strategic Plan focuses on building a thriving, collaborative and supported digital preservation community equipped and empowered to work together towards a sustainable digital legacy.
DPC raises concerns for Australian broadcast heritage

The DPC joins with its partners the Australian Library and Information Association and Australian Society of Archivists in expressing concern for the long sustainability of the distinctive and extensive digital archives of the ABC at a time when its professional capability in archiving and cataloguing face being downgraded.
DPC Launches Beginners Guide to Computational Access

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is pleased to announce the launch of Computational Access: A beginner's guide for digital preservation practitioners for a one-month member preview today.
Computational access is a term that is mentioned with increasing frequency by those in the digital preservation community. Many practitioners are aware it might be helpful to them (and their users) but do not have a handle on what exactly it entails, how it is best applied and where to start. To help address this challenge, the DPC have been working with Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) fellow Leontien Talboom on a getting started guide to computational access for the digital preservation community.
V&A Museum joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) welcomes the V&A Museum, as they become the newest Associate Member of the Coalition.
A world-leading museum of art and design, the V&A houses a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects, books and archives that span more than 5,000 years. The V&A’s holdings constitute collections-related digital assets such as object photography, born-digital and hybrid museum objects, digitised 3D scans of objects and archive material, corporate digital archives and other business digital assets.
New DPC Competency Framework Launched For Member Preview

The DPC is pleased to announce that its new Digital Preservation Competency Framework and companion resources are now available for member preview on the DPC Website.
The DPC Digital Preservation Competency Framework identifies and describes information on the skills, knowledge, and competencies required for successful digital preservation. It aims to reflect current good practice whilst also being designed with flexibility in mind - to offer a balance of detail so that it can be widely applicable for a range of applications as well as useable by digital preservation practitioners across different organizational contexts.
Preserving Born-Digital Design and Construction Records: New DPC Technology Watch Report now available on general release

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has made the next in its series of Technology Watch Reports on Preserving Born-Digital Design and Construction Records by Aliza Leventhal and Jody Thompson, available on general release today.
Published by the DPC in association with the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Preserving Born-Digital Design and Construction Records aims to support archival professionals, as well as active designers and facilities managers. It offers those considering acquisition, preservation and access with approaches which account for both the technical and cultural components of the broad range of born-digital design and construction records created throughout the course of designing, building, and maintaining a built space.

DPC looks ahead: Strategic planning for 2022 – 2027

The Digital Preservation Coalition is building a welcoming and inclusive global community, which works together to bring about a sustainable future for our digital assets. We are making progress towards a new strategic plan which encapsulates this vision, for adoption in August 2022.
Having been endorsed by the DPC Council and Subcommittees over the last twelve months, a draft document is now available for review by all DPC Members. The draft will be taken to the next DPC Council Meeting in its current form, including any comments added by DPC Members up to Friday 10th June.

Introducing Robin Wright: Thursday 19th May, 1500 AEST

The Digital Preservation Coalition is excited to introduce our newest member of staff who takes up her post as Head of Australasia and Asia-Pacific from today - Robin Wright.
Based in our Melbourne Office, Robin will be arranging meetings and calls with all our members in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore over the next few weeks but DPC Members are also invited to meet Robin as part of an informal drop-in.

DPC Competency Framework and Audit Toolkit - Member Preview and Recruitment for Pilot

The DPC is pleased to open registration for a webinar* on 15th June 2022 to introduce its new Competency Framework and Competency Audit Toolkit (DPC CAT), which will be available for Member Preview from that date. DPC also invites expressions of interest from Members who would like to participate in a pilot of the new Competency Audit Toolkit to help further refine the resource before its public release later in 2022.
