Dublin City Library and Archive has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) this month, becoming the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.

With ultimate responsibility for preserving the core records of Dublin City Council, the City Archives is working to create a secure reliable digital repository that reflects the business of the Council across all services and departments for born digital records and digitised heritage collections.

Charles Sturt University joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

CSU bannerThis World Digital Preservation Day, the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome the Library and School of Information and Communications Studies at Charles Sturt University (CSU), as they become the Coalition’s newest Associate Member.

With campuses across New South Wales, Australia, CSU has a long-standing interest in digital preservation across its research, teaching and scholarship activities. The School of Information and Communications Studies is currently expanding its research support over the coming years, resulting in an increased need for digital preservation and research data management.

The BFI joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to welcome the British Film Institute (BFI) as its newest Full Member.

With responsibility for the UK’s national moving image archive, the BFI collects and preserves the UK’s film, television and associated special collections, library books and journals. Digital preservation interests include digitized and born-digital acquisitions, at high volume.

“The BFI National Archive has been involved informally in DPC events and initiatives for a few years, and has benefitted immensely from the expertise, resources and support that the DPC’s membership community generates,” explains Stephen McConnachie, Head of Digital Preservation for BFI.

The University of Southampton joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The DPC is delighted to announce that the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) has joined the Coalition as an Associate Member. EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment from space, based in Darmstadt, Germany.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of NSW is one of Australia’s flagship art museums and the state’s leading visual arts institution. Located in Sydney on the lands of the Gadigal of the Eora nation, the Art Gallery of NSW holds significant collections of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, Australian and International art. The Art Gallery of NSW holds the personal archives of over 200 artists, including correspondence, photographs, original artworks and sketchbooks and audio-visual material. Also held are the records from over 50 galleries and art organisations, including the Biennale of Sydney. This is in addition to the Art Gallery’s own administrative records of from the 1870s to the present day.

A world-leading museum of art and design, the V&A houses a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects, books and archives that span more than 5,000 years. The V&A’s holdings constitute collections-related digital assets such as object photography, born-digital and hybrid museum objects, digitised 3D scans of objects and archive material, corporate digital archives and other business digital assets.

Founded in Belfast in 1845, the Library aims to ensure long-term access to digital content through the development of a strategy to support the acquisition, management, preservation and provision of access to born-digital and digitised content. With responsibility for the institutional repository as well as Special Collections and Archives, the Library has plans to implement both a Library Services specific Digital Preservation Policy, as well as a university-wide Digital Preservation Policy and long-term data management plan.

American University in Cairo, Egypt joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

AUC Logo 2American University in Cairo, Egypt (AUC) is the latest organization to join the Digital Preservation Coalition, as they become Associate Members.

The American University in Cairo was founded in 1919, and from the beginning considered enrichment of Egypt’s cultural life part of its mission, sponsoring lectures and other public programming featuring important thinkers and creative individuals. The major entry of The Rare Books and Special Collections Library of AUC Libraries into the area of preserving cultural heritage came with AUC’s acquisition of the personal library of pioneering scholar of Islamic Art and Architecture Sir K.A.C. Creswell in the 1950s which, with its rare and valuable book holdings, served as the core resource for the university’s Arab Studies offerings. The library’s holdings house important donated archival collections in various disciplines, include pioneer scholars in Islamic architecture, Egypt’s leading architects, world-class photographers, local Egyptologists, famous journalists and prolific artists as well as evidence of everyday Egyptians shaping their nation as in the 2011 revolution, for preserving cultural heritage materials.
