There are only two days left to apply for Career Development Fund grants for the Digital Preservation Training Programme (DPTP) Online Course at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. Applications are welcomed from all DPC members.

DPTP Online is an entry-level course that includes all the content previously taught on the award-winning 2-day face-to-face course DPTP: An Introduction to Digital Preservation, and many additional modules. It is aimed at complete beginners who wish to learn more about the field, and is ideal for starters in all disciplines who want to know more about the fundamental issues, gain confidence, and feel enabled to start working with digital preservation. Grant recipients will undertake the entire online course, which is comprised of the following modules:

  • What is digital preservation and why do we need it?

  • Approaches to Digital Preservation

  • An OAIS-like workflow for digital preservation

  • What are File Formats?

  • Tools for File Formats

  • Metadata for digital objects

  • Managed storage

  • Defining the User Community

  • Making digital content accessible to users

  • Legal Issues affecting digital preservation

  • Preservation Planning Tools

  • Trusted Digital Repositories and Audit

  • Self-Assessment Toolkits

  • Risk Management

The prospectus with a summary of content and learning outcomes is available here. The modules can be done in any order, and the estimated time to complete them all is 3-5 working days. For these grants, the course content will be accessible and available to recipients from April to October 2021 (6 months).

Each DPC Career Development Fund grant will cover the full registration costs of the course.

To apply for this grant, please complete and return all sections of the application form to Amy Currie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), accompanied by explicit approval for attendance from a supervisor, by 5th March 2021. Successful applicants will be notified on or before 19th March 2021.
