Laura Molloy, Senior Research Lead at CODATA and Chair of the judging panel, said:

"Once again this year, the standard of applications was excellent.  We were delighted to receive more nominations than ever before, and to welcome more projects from across the globe for consideration.  The judges have had an enormous - and enjoyable - challenge deciding on a set of finalists.  We are very excited to share these with the rest of the community now and look forward to celebrating this excellent work in digital preservation through the Digital Preservation Awards."

Anthea Seles, sponsor of the International Council on Archives Award for Collaboration & Co-operation was delighted with the finalists, saying:

"As sponsor of this Award for Collaboration and Cooperation, I am very proud to share the work of our finalists. Each one demonstrates a commitment to working as a community, for the benefit of the community.”

Before the judges decide on the winners, members of the Digital Preservation Coalition will be invited to cast their vote on each category once all the finalists have been announced. Members will be asked to select their first and second choices for each category and are asked to provide feedback to the finalists. Each Full Member, Associate and Allied Organisation of the DPC may submit one vote.

Other finalists will be announced over the course of this week and DPC Member voting will open on Wednesday 16th September 2020.

The digital preservation community will also have chance to hear about the work of the finalists, as they will be invited to form part of the #WeMissiPRES program dedicated to showcasing ‘The Best of Digital Preservation in 2020’ on Wednesday 23rd September 2020.

Finalists will then wait until the World Digital Preservation Day on 5th November 2020 when winners will be revealed as part of an online celebration with the digital preservation community, friends, family and peers from leading organisations.

The Digital Preservation Awards are a world-wide celebration of significant and state-of-the-art contributions to securing our digital legacy and just one of the ways the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) helps to raise awareness of the strategic, cultural, and technological issues which make up the digital preservation challenge.

The DPC would like to thank our sponsors: Google, The International Council on Archives, The Software Sustainability Institute (SSI), The Dutch Digital Heritage Network (DHN), The National Records of Scotland, The National Archives UK, Arkivum, Artefactual, AVP, CAE Technology Systems, Formpipe, LIBNOVA, Max Communications and Preservica for their support of the Digital Preservation Awards 2020.
