Digital Preservation Coalition joins EMBARK, the first pan-European initiative to safeguard Europe's media and born-digital art heritage

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is pleased to be involved in the European Media and Born-Digital Art Conservation and Knowledge Network (EMBARK), a newly approved COST Action bringing together expertise in a four-year mission to safeguard media and born-digital artworks.

Running until 15 October 2029, EMBARK is the first pan-European initiative dedicated to preserving Europe’s media and born-digital art heritage. The project brings together museums, archives, universities, researchers, conservators, digital preservation specialists, artists, and technologists from more than 25 countries in Europe, with plans to grow the network further over the coming years.

Help shape new resources to future-proof PhD theses

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), in collaboration with the Open Book Futures project, is undertaking a study to scope the requirements for resources and/or training materials that support the long-term preservation of electronic theses (e-theses).

As part of this work, we are conducting a consultation to understand what training is most needed - the challenges, gaps in knowledge, and opportunities to better support effective e-thesis preservation.

We are inviting responses from colleagues working in higher education who are either:

  • involved in managing e-thesis submission workflows, or

  • involved in digital preservation activities

Digital Preservation Coalition launches new Research and Development Fund for Members

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is pleased to announce the launch of its new Research & Development (R&D) Fund, offering targeted grant support for practical projects that help DPC Full Members develop, strengthen, or extend their digital preservation practice. 

Supported by the DPC Supporter Fund - part of the wider DPC Supporter Program - the R&D Fund represents a significant new investment in the global digital preservation community. The 2025–2026 cycle marks the first time the DPC is able to offer grant funding of this kind to its members.
