Each year, DPC Members are encouraged to carry out a self-assessment using the DPC Rapid Assessment Model (RAM) and to share their results with us so that they can be collated, summarized, and shared back across the membership. Members can complete an assessment at any point in the year to fit their own schedule.
The DPC RAM, a maturity model for digital preservation, helps organizations of all sizes assess and improve their capacity to preserve digital content.
This year’s report provides a valuable snapshot of digital preservation capacity across the Coalition, showing strengths, trends, and gaps.
This year, we have also included the results in CSV format- making it easier for you to plot the data against your own RAM assessment, create custom benchmarking reports, or build the figures into your internal planning and advocacy. We added this additional download in response to requests from members, and we hope you’ll find it useful.
While RAM can be used on its own by any organization, the real value comes from sharing results across the Coalition. Benchmarking against peers helps you understand where you sit, what others are aiming for, and where we are collectively heading.
How can this data be used?
We encourage you to use this report for benchmarking. Plot the summary figures alongside your own assessment as a direct comparison, and draw on them for internal reports, planning, and DPC Member-only events. Please remember that this resource is a DPC member benefit and should not be shared outside the DPC community.
A new cycle for RAM collection
In response to member feedback, we’ll be moving from an annual RAM collection cycle to a two-year cycle. This will give all members more time to make and embed improvements between surveys, while still benefiting from regular benchmarking insights.
Accessing the results
The latest DPC RAM Benchmarking Report and the CSV file are now available right here on the DPC website where they can be viewed alongside reports from previous years. Members, remember to log in to access these documents.
As always, if you have questions or ideas about how we can make these reports even more useful, please get in touch with the DPC team via Jenny Mitcham.
