The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is pleased to announce that ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, has joined as its latest Associate Member.
ACMI is a globally recognized hub that connects people, communities, technology and ideas to shape our futures. The ACMI Collection comprises diverse forms of screen culture including films, TV, videogames and commissioned works. By preserving, emulating, exhibiting and sharing the collection, ACMI ensures it is widely accessible to both audiences and industry.
ACMI Director & CEO Seb Chan said: “ACMI has been at the forefront of solving complex digital preservation challenges associated with contemporary media, art and videogames since the early 2010’s, so we are thrilled to join the DPC and continue sharing our knowledge with the wider international community. As software increasingly drives our heritage, culture and society, digital preservation is more critical than ever for future generations, the public record and democracy.”
"In becoming a member of the Digital Preservation Coalition, we are joining a network of institutions committed to safe-guarding and expanding access to our shared cultural heritage” added ACMI Head of Registration & Collections, Sarah Caldwell. “We look forward to collaboratively exploring new and innovative ways of preserving the artefacts of the future."
In its work, ACMI complements the collecting activities of peer institutions, sharing expertise and research while continuing to make its own collection increasingly discoverable online.
The DPC’s Head Australasia and Asia-Pacific, Robin Wright welcomed ACMI to the Coalition, saying: “ACMI has long been recognized for its innovative approach to access and engagement with screen culture. They are an important addition to the Coalition in our region, further strengthening the digital preservation community in Australasia and the Asia-Pacific. We are excited to be working with ACMI to share and learn from their expertise.”
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance.
