The Austrian Library Network and Service Ltd. (OBVSG) is the central IT service provider for libraries in Austria. In our department for ongoing planning/implementation, we are looking for a committed individual with a passion for sustainable information preservation and technological excellence.

Your responsibilities – what you’ll contribute

  • Development and enhancement of tools, workflows, and integrations for digital long-term preservation 

  • Implementation of technical solutions within the team – from specification to configuration

  • Analysis and improvement of existing tools, including bug reports and contributions to open-source components 

  • Collaboration with subject matter and operations experts to continuously optimize our systems 

  • Consulting with clients and analyzing individual project requirements 

  • Monitoring international developments and actively shaping best practices in digital preservation 

  • Documentation of workflows and preservation plans

What you should bring

  • Education or professional experience in IT – you can program and are comfortable with typed languages like C#, C++, Rust, or Java

  • Enjoyment of teamwork, creativity, and a structured, solution-oriented mindset

  • Experience with tools like GitLab, issue trackers, wikis, and interest in modern development processes (CI, containerization, orchestration, testing strategies)

  • Willingness to dive deep into complex systems and data, down to the byte level if needed, and share your knowledge with the team

  • Initiative for professional and personal development and willingness to travel

  • Ideally, initial experience with digital preservation, digital humanities, or cultural heritage

  • Excellent German skills and technical English
