We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Digital Archivist to be responsible for digital preservation at the Inn, using Preservica.
The post will report to the Archivist & Records Manager within the Inn's Library & Archive service.
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree in archives and records management (or similar) and at least one year of relevant post-qualification experience.
The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn
Gray's Inn is one of four Inns of Court, the historic societies that educate and train barristers in England and Wales. The Inn provides the Library and Archives, the Chapel, dining, scholarships, advocacy training and other facilities for students and barristers.
The Archive
The Inn's Pension Books and Admission Registers date from 1569 and 1581 respectively, while other records survive from the 18th century onwards. In addition, there are small collections of photographs, illustrations and ephemera and several deposits of private papers, including those of Lord Atkin and Sir William Clarke Hall and a selection from Venetia Stephenson, the first woman to conduct a murder defence in England. Gray's Inn also holds the surviving records of Barnard's Inn and Staple Inn.
Duties include
--Day-to-day responsibility for digital preservation using Preservica
--Assisting with the implementation of an ongoing digital records management project
--Assisting with the general running of the Archive
--Providing cover for the Archivist & Records Manager
--Assisting with historical and other enquiries, tours of the Inn, exhibitions and events, and providing content for the Inn's website and social media channels
