Job Introduction

The Archivist will join the Audiovisual and Radio Collections team, based at the Archive Centre and Perivale, who are responsible for the management and curation of the BBC’s vast Television and Sound Archives.

The post-holder will be involved in many activities supporting the capture of new content for the archive as well as assurance of and access to the existing collections. Archivists deal with a wide range of users of the archive both internal and external to the BBC and are expected to build an expert understanding of the breadth and depth of the collection.

Main Responsibilities

  • Working to support the Archives Collection Strategy – this will include research, cataloguing, creating documentation and selection of content
  • Monitoring the receipt of agreed deliverables from production areas, importing to digital repositories and escalating issues
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with customers both internal and external
  • Exploiting digital platforms in order to present archive content to all users
  • Working as part of team to ensure priorities and strategies remain aligned
  • Providing pre-digitisation support for assets selected for the Archives Preservation Programme
  • Ensuring that archive policies and standards are adhered to
  • Promoting best archive practice both internally and externally

Are you the right candidate?

  • Higher education qualification in Archives, Records or Information Management or experience of working in archives / library environment
  • Communication skills and the ability to manage relationships within an archive or production environment
  • Experience of working as part of a customer focused team
  • Experience of working under pressure, flexibly and to d
