The International Council on Archives (ICA) has announced the theme for International Archives Week 2026 (#IAW2026), taking place from 8–12 June 2026.
Under the theme Archives for Justice: Rights, Memory & Futures, this year’s programme will explore the role archives play in supporting accountability, preserving memory, protecting rights, and shaping more equitable futures.
Selected through a global consultation involving archivists, records managers, and cultural heritage professionals worldwide, the theme reflects growing recognition that archives are not passive repositories, but active participants in society.
Throughout the week, the ICA will host webinars and discussions and encourage local events, community initiatives, and online engagement around the hashtag #ArchivesForJustice.
The ICA has invited professionals working across archives, records management, libraries, government, academia, and cultural heritage to take part. Opportunities to get involved include:
-
Exploring the IAW2026 Content Hub for inspiration and resources on #ArchivesForJustice
-
Organizing a local event, webinar, discussion, or initiative
-
Joining webinars and conversations taking place throughout the week
-
Engaging with ICA Groups working on themes connected to rights, memory, and justice
