The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is delighted to share a Dutch translation of its Rapid Assessment Model (RAM), with thanks to Sophia van Hoek at the National Archives in the Netherlands who generously donated her time to make the resource accessible.
Now available as a PDF download in Dutch, the second edition of the DPC RAM is a digital preservation maturity modelling tool that has been designed to enable rapid benchmarking of an organization’s digital preservation capability.
“One of the things I learned during my internship at the Preservation team of the National Archives of the Netherlands is how important it is to work together in the field of digital preservation. This translation of DPC RAM was my way of actively contributing to that community, in the hopes of making digital preservation more accessible to the Dutch GLAM sector”, says Sophia van Hoek who created the translated resource. “I am delighted to be able to help make this available to digital preservation colleagues in the Netherlands.”
The DPC’s work includes the production of many guides and reports which have supported the development of digital preservation tools and standards, as well as the professional community engaged in digital preservation. The translation of DPC material into other languages is a vital way of supporting the digital preservation community across the world.
The Dutch translation of the DPC RAM released today is made available as part of the DPC’s policy and a wider program of work to provide better access to support for the practitioners who need it, wherever they are in the world. With the ultimate aim to share all of its key resources in a range of languages, the DPC is working with volunteer translators and digital preservation networks around the world.
The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy regardless of geography.

DPC Rapid Assessment Model: nu ook in het Nederlands!
Vanaf nu is het Rapid Assessment Model (RAM) van de Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) ook in een Nederlandse versie beschikbaar. Met dank aan Sophia van Hoek die het model tijdens haar stageperiode bij het Nationaal Archief toegankelijk heeft gemaakt voor Nederlandstaligen.
Het Rapid Assessment Model, inmiddels in zijn tweede editie en nu ook in het Nederlands beschikbaar als PDF download, is een volwassenheidsmodel dat is ontworpen om snel te kunnen evalueren welke digitale preserveringsvaardigheden een organisatie in huis heeft.
"Een van de dingen die ik heb geleerd tijdens mijn stage bij het Preservation team van het Nationaal Archief is hoe belangrijk het is om samen te werken op het gebied van digitale preservering. Deze vertaling van DPC RAM was mijn manier om actief bij te dragen aan die community, in de hoop digitale preservering toegankelijker te maken voor de Nederlandse GLAM-sector", zegt Sophia van Hoek, die DPC RAM naar het Nederlands heeft vertaald. "Ik ben blij dat ik op deze manier kan helpen om het model beschikbaar te maken voor collega's in Nederland die zich bezighouden met digitale preservering."
Door de jaren heen heeft de DPC vele gidsen en rapporten gepubliceerd die niet alleen de ontwikkeling van digitale preserveringstools en -standaarden hebben ondersteund, maar ook de professionele community die zich bezighoudt met digitale preservering. De vertaling van DPC materiaal naar andere talen is een belangrijke manier om die community wereldwijd te ondersteunen.
De Nederlandse vertaling van de DPC RAM die vandaag is uitgebracht, wordt beschikbaar gesteld als onderdeel van het beleid van de DPC en een breder werkprogramma waardoor beroepsbeoefenaren waar ook ter wereld toegang krijgen tot ondersteunend materiaal. De DPC heeft als uiteindelijk doel om haar belangrijkste hulpmiddelen in verschillende talen te delen en werkt daarom samen met vrijwillige vertalers en digitale preserveringsnetwerken over de hele wereld.
De DPC is een internationale stichting die digitale preservering ondersteunt en haar leden over de hele wereld helpt om lange-termijn-toegang tot digitale inhoud en diensten te bieden. Dat doet zij door zich in te zetten voor de digitale preserveringscommunity, door gericht belangen te behartiging, door trainingen te ontwikkelen die vaardigheden op het gebied van digitale preservering verbeteren, door ‘good practice’ en goed bestuur. DPC’s visie is een duurzame digitale nalatenschap ongeacht geografie.
