DPC members may be interested in DAM and Collections Management for Cultural Heritage 2026, taking place in London on 26 June 2026, where Michael Popham, Digital Preservation Specialist at the DPC, will moderate a panel discussion on What Digital Preservation Should Mean for GLAMP.
The session takes up a question that comes up often across the cultural heritage sector: what do we really mean when we talk about digital preservation? And how is it different from backup, storage, or digitization?
Bringing together speakers from across the GLAMP community, the panel will look at what digital preservation means in practice for organizations working within real-world constraints. The discussion will touch on the gap between best-practice ideals and operational realities, while also unpacking some of the principles that underpin long-term digital stewardship, from fixity checking and format migration to metadata and succession planning.
Michael will be joined by a strong panel, including colleagues from DPC Member institutions: Patricia Falcão from Tate, Callum McKean from the British Library, and Laurisa Sastoque Pabon from Digital Preservation Southampton. They will be joined by Dan Heather from the National Theatre.
It promises to be a thoughtful and practical discussion, especially for those working to make digital preservation achievable in busy and often under-resourced heritage settings.
You can find out more about the session on the event website. DPC members can also register with a 20% discount using the code AGENDA20, valid until 10 April.
