The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has launched a member preview of its new Advocacy Toolkit today, offering a practical resource to help organizations make the case for digital preservation.
Developed collaboratively with contributions from across the DPC community, the Advocacy Toolkit brings together practical templates, worksheets, examples, and message‑building frameworks to support real‑world advocacy activities and communicate with key stakeholders like IT, budget holders and senior executives. It is designed to be used flexibly, enabling practitioners to dip into relevant sections depending on their needs, whether they are planning an advocacy campaign, engaging stakeholders, or strengthening organizational buy‑in.
The Toolkit reflects the evolving landscape of digital preservation, addressing a growing range of challenges and opportunities facing organizations today. It also builds on earlier DPC work, expanding the original Executive Guide into a more comprehensive, actionable resource grounded in community experience.
“Effective advocacy is essential to ensuring digital preservation is understood, supported, and sustained," explains Sarah Middleton, Chief Community Officer for the DPC. “By translating complex technical needs into meaningful organizational outcomes, the Toolkit helps practitioners position digital preservation as a strategic enabler of resilience, accountability, and long‑term value.”
The Toolkit will be available exclusively to DPC Members for a five‑week preview period, ahead of its public launch on 16 June 2026. During this time, Members are invited to explore the resource in depth and provide feedback to ensure the final release is as relevant and effective as possible for a global audience. DPC Members are encouraged to share any feedback on content, usability, and structure with sarah.middleton@dpconline.org by Friday 12th June.
The final version will be published on 16 June 2026, making the Toolkit openly available to the wider digital preservation community.
