The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) has today launched the second publication in its three-part Technology Watch Guidance Note series on Cyber Security and Resilience for Digital Preservation. Available initially as an exclusive preview for DPC Members, the series will be released publicly on 31 August 2026.
Building on the foundations laid in the first Guidance Note, this new publication Part 2: Engage Stakeholders explores how digital preservation practitioners can work effectively with colleagues across their organizations to strengthen cyber resilience. Written by Heather Lowrie, Director of Resilionix, and Garth Stewart, Head of Good Practice at the DPC, the publication demonstrates how digital preservation can complement wider cyber security programmes while offering practical approaches to engaging stakeholders and building organizational support.
Commenting on the publication, DPC Chief Digital Preservation Officer Jenny Mitcham said:
"The fantastic response to the first Guidance Note and launch event really demonstrated how important this topic is to our community. I'm delighted to see this second Guidance Note published, building on those foundations by exploring how digital preservation practitioners can engage and work effectively with key stakeholders across their organizations. Cyber security is a shared responsibility, so getting these conversations right is an essential step towards building resilience."
The Cyber Security and Resilience for Digital Preservation series supports organizations in responding to an increasingly complex cyber threat landscape by providing practical guidance that connects digital preservation and cyber security. Together, the three Guidance Notes help practitioners and organizational leaders understand cyber risks, engage stakeholders, and develop effective approaches to protecting digital collections while maintaining long-term access.
The third and final Guidance Note in the series will be released on 30 July 2026. Together, the publications will explore the challenges of cyber security in digital preservation and support organizations in developing effective approaches to managing risk and building resilience.
The Technology Watch publication series is just one of the ways the DPC supports the digital preservation community. An international charitable foundation and advocate for digital preservation, the Coalition helps its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, tailored support and consultancy, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
