DPC has commissioned a revision of the DPC Technology Watch Report on Digital Forensics. The co-authors to the revised report are now inviting community feedback on their first working draft. The new report will update the previous DPC Technology Watch Report on Digital Forensics, reflecting developments in the field and current approaches to using digital forensics within digital preservation.

This is an early draft and is being opened for community review specifically to gather feedback before the report is developed further. In preparing it, co-authors Callum McKean and Leontien Talboom have spoken with practitioners and researchers working across the digital forensics field, but they are keen to hear from a wider range of people and perspectives.

The co-authors would particularly welcome comments on anything that may be missing, areas that could be strengthened or clarified, and examples, developments or resources that should be considered as the report evolves.

DPC Members and the wider digital preservation community are invited to review the draft and add comments directly to the document:

Review and comment on the draft Digital Forensics Technology Watch Report

If you have feedback or information that you would prefer not to share through the commenting function, please get in touch with the DPC team via info@dpconline.org and we will pass it on to the authors.

Feedback received through this review will help inform the next stage of development of the report.

Please note that the deadline for community feedback is Friday 13th November 2026.
