Did you know that DPC members can receive Career Development Fund grants for training and development opportunities beyond those regularly advertised on the DPC website?

The DPC invites and encourages our members to apply for a Career Development Fund grant for a Member Self-Identified Opportunity.

These grants, detailed below, provide support for a training or development opportunity that a member has identified which they believe will help build digital preservation capacity within their organization.

About the Career Development Fund Grants

The DPC’s Career Development Fund (previously known as the Leadership Programme) provides an ongoing programme of grants for our members to attend specialist digital preservation training and development opportunities.

In addition to the regularly Advertised Calls for Applicants on the DPC website, the Career Development Fund also offers grants for Member Self-Identified Opportunities—DPC Members can submit an application to receive a Career Development Fund grant for any training or development opportunity that they believe will help build digital preservation capacity within their organization.

The identified training or development opportunity does not have to focus on digital preservation directly. Topics that are adjacent to digital preservation, or cover the more generic skills identified in competency frameworks like DigCurV, are acceptable as long as the applicant can demonstrate how they relate to their organization’s digital preservation work.

For example, recent grants awarded for member self-identified opportunities include a grant for the online Research Data Management Forum on Data Stewardship, and a grant contributing to the course fees for a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Data Science course.

How to Apply

The application form and Career Development Fund Guidelines are both available on the DPC website’s Career Development Fund page.

All sections of the application form should be completed and returned to the Training and Grants Manager (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), accompanied by explicit approval for attendance from a supervisor via email or attached letter.

Applications should be completed and returned at least ten weeks before the start of the proposed activity.  Short-notice applications received after this deadline may be considered depending on DPC staff capacity and if the applicant can demonstrate the lateness was for reasons out of their control.

For more details about eligibility and criteria for the grants, please read the Career Development Fund Guidelines, and applicants are encouraged to contact the Training and Grants Manager (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) should any questions arise.
