The countdown is on: In just six weeks, on Thursday 6 November, we’ll be celebrating World Digital Preservation Day (#WDPD2025)!
This global day is our chance to raise awareness of digital preservation and connect with colleagues and organizations around the world. Every year, on the first Thursday of November, the digital preservation community celebrates all things digital preservation, and in 2025 we’re asking the powerful question: “Why Preserve?”
This year’s theme encourages organizations and individuals to share their motivations for digital preservation. What drives your work? What stories are you planning to tell on World Digital Preservation Day?
On the Day itself, the DPC will launch the global “Why Preserve?” campaign, providing advocacy messages and practical resources for you to use and share.
Ways to get involved in WDPD 2025:
• Post about your work or collections on social media with #WDPD2025
• Host an event: webinar, lightning talk, skill share, or open house
• Share your “why” in a blog
• Get creative! Bake, craft, code, design, or perform your digipres passion
Tell us what you’re organizing!
We’re collecting activities on the DPC’s Global Events page to showcase how the digital preservation community is celebrating around the globe. Whether you’re planning a podcast, watch party, or something creative - we’d love to include it on our website and help you share it with the world!
