UCC wishes to appoint an experienced administrator to the role of Head of Research Services.  Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Head of Research Services - Library will lead the UCC Library Research Services team in developing and delivering a range of innovative services in support of robust, reproducible, and open research practices. This new portfolio is designed to meet the rapidly developing and increasingly complex needs of researchers operating in a digital research and scholarship environment.  It is intricately connected to the University’s strategic goals to strengthen UCC’s research impact, and the role holder will directly support University-level initiatives in this area. The role holder will become the chief authority in the University on Open Science and by developing expertise in all aspects of OS will lead on the adoption of best practice in all research-related activity.

 

The post holder will be a collaborative, experienced, passionate, forward-thinking leader responsible for developing and managing the Library’s Research Services team. The position will define and articulate the vision, strategic direction, and priorities for library research services in a dynamic environment that values, creativity, teamwork, and innovation. Building on existing services, the role holder will further develop the portfolio in close collaboration with library colleagues, the Director of Library Services, the Information Services Directorate, the Office of the Vice-President for Research and Innovation, and partners across campus. There is a requirement to develop a strong culture of collaboration and participative problem-solving with IT Services to ensure library-specific technical solutions are provided and operationalised. Services provided by UCC Library will include targeted supports for Open Research, research data management/stewardship, digital scholarship, scholarly communication and publication services, repository services, research information management, and the supports for the responsible use of metrics.

 

The role holder will be an active member of the Library Leadership Team and will provide strategic and operational input into the leadership, management, and development of the library and to the embedded culture of excellence in the provision of resources, facilities, and services. The successful candidate will be highly service-oriented and promote a culture of flexibility and continuous improvement. The post offers great scope to work in an evolving and exciting area, involving national and international engagement with organisations from across the research and scholarly communication ecosystem.
