We are seeking a dedicated and skilled digital archivist to support the management of our growing digital archive and to make our history accessible into the future. This critical role involves developing and implementing robust digital preservation workflows, managing complex digital assets, and ensuring long-term accessibility. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience in digital archiving and a commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Scotland.
Key Responsibilities of this role

Arrange, describe and catalogue digital resources in the archive, ensuring they are in line with appropriate standards.

Work both internally and externally to build and manage stakeholder relationships to ensure regular archive transfers to the digital repository.

Undertake research into HES archive material to inform cataloguing, the preparation of collection summaries, provenance and rights clarification.

Promote and educate others in digital archiving and encourage use of the archive.

Assist with the creation of a priority collecting plan that is focussed on born digital resources to be added to the HES Archive.

Support the development and implementation of our digital preservation system and catalogue (Oracle) including migration and upgrade of data and testing of systems.

Assist with the development of archive policies, procedures, reports and operational planning in line with appropriate international archive standards.

Assist with the delivery of archive enquiry services in the Search Room including guided tours and events.

Assist with research, special initiatives, lectures and exhibitions and other activities within the Archives forward plan.

Line management of Digital Archive Officers as well as supervision of trainees, volunteers and other members of staff undertaking work in the archive.

Assist with project planning, assembling performance indicators and preparing reports.

Other relevant duties delegated by the Head or Deputy Head of Archives.
