The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

The Open University Archive acquires, preserves and provides access to historical materials (both physical and digital) relating to the history of the OU and other special collections. The service is based within the University Library located on the Walton Hall Campus in Milton Keynes.

We are currently looking for a Digital Archivist to help to ensure that born-digital and digitised archive content created by The Open University is appropriately managed, preserved and made accessible. The post will also be involved in the operation and development of the University Archive web archiving services and the University Digital Archive. 

While the post will have a particular focus for managing digital content, the role will also involve deputising for the University Archivist as required and supporting the day-to-day running of the University Archive Service as a member of the archive team.

Skills and Experience

Educated to a postgraduate qualification in archival management or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate experience of working in an archive, library or research environment and knowledge of GDPR, Freedom of Information and copyright legislation as well as knowledge of digital preservation theory, concepts and standards. Experience of using and applying metadata within cataloguing or repository systems in either a Library or Archive environment.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and you will be experienced in planning, team working and providing training to others.
