A local federation of 39 municipalities and one region in Sweden, Kommunalförbundet Sydarkivera serves as a shared archive authority for its members. It manages a joint archival system and is responsible for the preservation and long-term archiving of digital information.

"As our members’ preservation agency, our goal is to be an active part of the digital preservation community so we can provide the best possible service to meet our members’ needs - covering the full range of digital objects found across municipalities and regions," says Karin Bredenberg, Metadata Strategist at Kommunalförbundet Sydarkivera.

"We are always seeking to extend and deepen our collaboration with preservation initiatives in Europe and beyond, so that we can continue to improve our services for members while learning from others. Membership of the DPC will broaden our opportunities to learn from the best in the preservation community."

Jane Winters, Chair of the Digital Preservation Coalition, welcomed Kommunalförbundet Sydarkivera to the Coalition, stating: “As a federation serving many municipalities in Sweden, Kommunalförbundet Sydarkivera brings valuable perspectives on preserving a wide range of digital information that underpins public life. Their participation will enrich the DPC community, and we look forward to working together to address shared challenges in digital preservation.”

The DPC is an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation, helping its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.
