The National Library of Luxembourg / Bibliothèque nationale du Luxembourg (BnL) collects, catalogs and preserves the written national heritage and provides its readers with vast collections, touching all fields of knowledge. From its origins, it has been the country's main scientific, study and research library. Alongside more than 1.8 million documents on paper, the BnL offers its readers an ever-growing number of digital documents, accessible 24 hours a day. The digital collection is developed on the basis of legal deposit and is supplemented by targeted acquisitions, which the BnL preserves using its digital preservation infrastructure.

The National Library is looking to strengthen the Digital Preservation Service attached to the IT and Digital Innovation Division. The candidate will be responsible for setting up a system to automate the export, transformation and synchronization of preserved documents to third-party applications.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Appraisal of the business needs of the BnL;

  • Evaluation of the existing APIs of the preservation platform;

  • Identification and evaluation of good practices implemented in other international heritage institutions;

  • Development and documentation of components necessary to automate the export of documents;

  • Assessment of potential integration into the existing infrastructure (a-z.lu search engine; the library management system; the eluxemburgensia.lu publication platform);

  • Optimization of the technical solutions retained if necessary;

  • Definition of automatic tests.

Technical skills
  • Proven experience in application development in Python;

  • Proficiency in decentralized version management software git;

  • Proficiency in the analysis and transformation of XML and JSON data;

  • Proficiency in SQL or NoSQL databases (MongoDB);

  • Development of the quality code.

  • Development of applications using task queues and / or data pipelines such as Celery or Redis RQ

  • Knowledge of a web framework for python such as Flask or Django

  • Digital preservation systems based on ISO 14721: 2012

  • OAI-PMH protocol

  • METS / ALTO format

Conditions of admission

Luxembourg State employee position, 1 year contract

Diplomas

You hold a degree or diploma issued by a higher education establishment recognized by the Luxembourg State and attesting to the successful completion of at least a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.

Experience

You have at least 3 years of experience in the field.

Languages

You meet the knowledge requirements of the 3 administrative languages (French, German, Luxembourgish) ​​for the European Language Framework group A2. Exemption from two of the three administrative languages ​​may be granted under certain conditions.

Nationality

You are a national of a Member State of the European Union.
