The project team at the University of Illinois would like to draw the attention of Digital Preservation Coalition members to an exciting funding opportunity: The Email Archives: Building Capacity and Community program.
Led by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, this program invites proposals that foster the ability of archives, libraries, and museums to preserve email records. The attached newsletter, developed by Email Archives Community Fellow Ruby Martinez, provides a helpful overview.
For more information regarding this opportunity and to apply for an EA:BCC grant, DPC members may visit the project website by clicking below:
Here are a few important facts about the program:
-
The EA:BCC program is supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
-
Two rounds of funding will be made available, with the first set of proposals due June 30th.
-
Projects may begin as early as January 1, 2021.
-
Proposed projects must support the overall goals of the regrant program while seeking to build the email archiving community. For example, projects might undertake activities like these:
-
Implement email acquisition, processing, discovery, and delivery services that are suitable to a wide range of archival repositories
-
Foster specific process improvements to increase email archives tool functionality and interoperability
-
Highlight specific processed email collections
-
Demonstrate how other archives, libraries, and museums can process and provide access to email using community-supported tools
-
-
Collaborative partnerships and projects are particularly encouraged.
-
Proposals will be vetted by a peer advisory board.
-
Funding needs of $25,000 to $100,000 USD are eligible for support.
