This month we launch our good practice guide to Digital Preservation Documentation. This guide is the result of a series of focus groups the DPC held with its members to gather together advice, guidance and case studies on digital preservation documentation. The resulting publication encapsulates the wisdom shared by DPC members and provides practical tips on how to move forward with documentation.

This workshop event not only launches the guide, but also brings together community members to discuss the (sometimes neglected) topic of digital preservation documentation. Presentations will include a number of different examples of how organizations have developed and created their own documentation using a range of different tools and approaches. Interactive sessions and group discussions will help attendees consider their next steps for digital preservation documentation.

Draft agenda:

Launch of the guide to digital preservation documentation - Jenny Mitcham, Head of Good Practice and Standards, DPC

Developing Deaccession Procedures at the Archaeology Data Service - Olivia Foster, Digital Archives Officer, Archaeology Data Service

Documentation at the British Film Institute - Lucy Wales, Digital Preservation Manager and Jennifer Macmillan, Collections Systems Specialist, British Film Institute

Making Cooperative Digital Preservation Documentation Sustainable - Cliff Landis, Co-Chair, MetaArchive Cooperative Documentation Committee

Versioning your Documentation: Remembering Why You Used to Do Something ‘That Way’ - Nathan Tallman, Digital Preservation Librarian, Penn State University Libraries

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy

The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.
