Disposal isn’t often the first thing to think about, when you’re focused on preserving digital information for the long term. But it's inevitable that at some point we’ll have to delete, dispose or otherwise deaccession some of our digital content. So what are the use cases - why would we want to do this? How do we make sure we remember when and what we need to forget? How can we safely press Delete, when human error is one of the biggest threats to the rest of our data? And, how do we record this in our metadata?

This DP Clinic will begin with a short presentation from Olivia Foster on the deaccessioning process at the Archaeology Data Service. We will then open up the event to a discussion with the audience to share their processes, thoughts and questions on this topic.

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy

The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent - the same applies to #DPConnect sessions. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community and/or attending a #DPConnect session to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.
