#DPClinic is an informal online space to discuss a popular digital preservation topic. This month's clinic takes place on Friday 24 February at 2pm UTC (click here for local times).
The topic for this session will be a discussion of digital signatures, also known as electronic signatures or e-signatures. One of our DPC Members recently sought advice about this on DPC-DISCUSSION@JISCMAIL.AC.UK , and this highlighted some issues around their use in the context of digital preservation. What steps can we take to ensure that digital signatures remain trustworthy and reliable? Is that aim realistic, given that certification authorities will surely change or expire over time? Where can we look for advice and guidance? Are there lessons we can learn from traditional, analogue archival practices?
Participants are invited to bring questions, queries and challenges on the relevant topic, as well as stories of what has worked well for them; or alternatively just listen in to the discussion.
#DPConnect and #DPClinic are available to everyone in the digital preservation community, DPC Members and non-members alike, provided all participants are respectful and supportive of one another and adhere to the DPC's Inclusion and Diversity Policy.
