This online members-only event will be held on the 28th of September at 13:00-14:00 UTC and is scheduled to suit Members based in Europe, Africa, and Middle East, as well as the east coast of the Americas. (click for local time).

You don’t need to join the AVSIG in order to attend one of our meetings; you just need to come from a DPC Member organization and pre-register for the event (see below) so that we have an idea of numbers.

The Audiovisual Special Interest Group (AVSIG) brings together any interested staff from DPC Member organizations to discuss issues and challenges relating to the preservation of digital content that is either audio, video, or both. The AVSIG provides an opportunity to share experiences, discuss good practice, and identify and address common problems. It aims to complement, not duplicate, the activities of any pre-existing groups, meetings, or activities that address the long-term preservation of AV content. Priority is given to discussions of real-world experiences and examples of proven good practice.

At this meeting we will hear from Elżbieta Wysocka, the Director of Digital Collections and Digitization and her colleagues at Filmoteka Narodowa – Instytut Audiowizualny (the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute, FINA) based in Warsaw, Poland. Elżbieta will give an overview of FINA’s current challenges, plans, and strategic goals.

Łukasz Janik, who is responsible for our Digital Archive Installations and General systems operations, will introduce the technologies used by FINA and discuss the scale of their digital collections and the challenges they present .

Joanna Kaliszewska is responsible for FINA’s Collection Management Systems and cataloguing and she will speak about how they manage their digital collections and processes, the dedicated central DAM software they use, as well as the lessons learned and successes.

Julia Girulska will give a brief introduction to the next stages of their FERC project (an EU-funded endeavour), and explain what they hope to achieve in the area of digital preservation.

When possible, any presentations given at AVSIG meetings will be recorded and subsequently made available to Members via this event page.
