Please join us for #DPConnect Americas! Come along for a chat with our local DP community. #DPConnect Americas will take place on the first Thursday of each month at 2:00pm Eastern Time as a online space to drop in and discuss all things digital preservation.
The gatherings will remain short and informal, 30 minutes max, they will have no agenda and no themes – just come and talk about what you are working on, share work problems and challenges - or just say hello!
We are excited to announce that this #DPConnect session will be guest hosted by Lisa Lawlis (Western Libraries, Canada) and Rachel MacGregor (University of Warwick, UK)! They will talk about the next steps for their Pre-Appraisal Guide for “the stuff” before opening the floor to chats.
The session is an overview of the resource guide we made to help staff handle inquiries of born digital records and next steps for the project. To help mitigate questions from staff and donors about “what do I have to know to donate digital materials?” during the donation inquiry process, we have put together a guide to help steer conversations to gather the information needed for processing and preservation planning. We will provide examples of how we put the guide into practice and next steps to help fill documentation gaps to support our teams with digital preservation so that every donation or collection with born digital records doesn’t feel like “starting from scratch” each time. We’d love to hear about resources you have found useful and to share good practice so that we can take our next steps with “the stuff”!
We'll use the hashtag #dpconnect when we discuss it on social media.
#DPConnect is open to everyone in the digital preservation community, DPC Members and non-members alike, provided all participants are respectful and supportive of one another and adhere to the DPC's Inclusion and Diversity Policy (see more below).

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy
The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent - the same applies to #DPConnect sessions. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community and/or attending a #DPConnect session to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.
Zoom may now require you to have a personal account in order to join a meeting. Therefore please could you register for an account in advance of #DPConnect, if you do not have one already. The sign up link is here: https://zoom.us/signup
