This online members-only event will be held on the 27th of November at 01:00-02:00 UTC (14:00-15:00 NZST, 12:00-13:00 AEDT, 09:00-10:00 SGT) and is intended to suit Members based in Australasia and Asia-Pacific regions.
The Audiovisual Special Interest Group (AVSIG) brings together any interested staff from DPC Member organizations to discuss issues and challenges relating to the preservation of digital content that is either audio, video, or both. The AVSIG provides an opportunity to share experiences, discuss good practice, and identify and address common problems. It aims to complement, not duplicate, the activities of any pre-existing groups, meetings, or activities that address the long-term preservation of AV content. Priority is given to discussions of real-world experiences and examples of proven good practice.
Tom Ackroyd (Senior Preservation Archivist at Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision) will talk about a recent project to devise a workflow for the preservation of DVD-Video.
He will attempt to answer questions such as:
What is DVD-Video and how does it differ from other DVD formats?
How can we digitally preserve DVDs as single objects?
How can we migrate AV materials from DVDs, preserving the original authored intent?
What is an appropriate video file format for long-term digital preservation of those materials?
How can we use AI tools to write scripts to automate that preservation?
Tom will describe the project and share details of the workflow he and his colleagues developed to address a collection of optical discs in our care. There will be time for Q&A.
Where possible, any presentations given at this meeting will be recorded and subsequently made available to Members via this event page.
If you have any questions or suggested topics for future meetings, please email: michael.popham@dpconline.org. (see below for the proposed date and time zone of AVSIG’s next meeting).
