For this month’s DP Clinic, the last of 2023, we will host an open discussion to revisit the challenges of collecting and preserving social media. Back in 2016, the DPC published it’s Technology Watch Report “Preserving Social Media” (by Sara Day Thomson), and the landscape has changed significantly since then…..or has it?

This clinic will provide an opportunity to share your experiences and questions around collecting social media. Are there any success stories or lessons that we can learn from others? Have the difficulties of collecting social media got easier, harder, or have they just changed in recent years? Can we learn anything from the changes at Twitter/X, or the growth in end-to-end encryption? Why have earlier efforts to collect social media en masse apparently been abandoned? Are the challenges of collecting social media simply too great?

Come along and share your insights, experiences, and questions – we’d love to hear from you!

DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy

The DPC Community is guided by the values set out in our Strategic Plan and aims to be respectful, welcoming, inclusive and transparent - the same applies to #DPConnect sessions. We encourage diversity in all its forms and are committed to being accessible to everyone who wishes to engage with the topic of digital preservation, whilst remaining technology and vendor neutral. We ask all those who are part of this community and/or attending a #DPConnect session to be positive, accepting, and sensitive to the needs and feelings of others in alignment with our DPC Inclusion & Diversity Policy.

Zoom may now require you to have a personal account in order to join a meeting. Therefore please could you register for an account in advance of #DPConnect, if you do not have one already. The sign up link is here: https://zoom.us/signup
