This means overseeing an extensive program of work in collaboration with the ten NSLA member libraries including major projects, policy development, research collaborations, advocacy activity, professional networks and advisory groups.

The Executive Director works in a highly collaborative environment, negotiating with CEOs and senior staff from NSLA libraries to reach consensus on priority pieces of work and resource allocation. They communicate with the wider library, cultural, government, and research sectors on behalf of NSLA member libraries. The role calls for demonstrated leadership skills, high-level strategic skills, strong stakeholder management capability, budget management skills, and extensive understanding of the library sector.

The Executive Director reports to the Chair of NSLA and manages a remote team of four, with colleagues currently based in Melbourne, Darwin, and Wellington, New Zealand.

Ideally the incumbent will be stationed at NSLA headquarters in Canberra, but the role is open to applicants elsewhere in Australia.
