Preserving correspondence has always been of great cultural, historical and legal importance. Proof of commitments and agreements (between government and citizens or between a supplier and a customer for example) not only have a legal value, but preserve a democratic record of truth and transparency. From a cultural-historical perspective, we want to be able to store and publish e-mail exchanges from artists, writers and other influencers. And from a researcher's point of view, e-mail archives provide a wealth of sociological information.
But how do you navigate your way through endless e-mail archives? How do you locate the information you are looking for and how do you find and save your context? And what can you do to protect the privacy of those involved?
Hosted by the Coalition for Digital Preservation in the Netherlands (NCDD) and the Dutch Digital Heritage Network, this Dutch-language seminar presented at the Ministry for Education, Culture and Science in The Hague will address the topics of selection, privacy and archiving.
