This role offers a rare opportunity to work on a unique and innovative initiative within the Digital Preservation Team at the British Library and help deliver the functionality for implementation and execution of scalable digital preservation solutions. The suite of tools produced by the Integrated Preservation Suite (IPS) project will ensure that the Library can identify threats to the longevity of content before they materialise, and will provide the infrastructure to devise, test, execute and deploy preservation planning at scale. As a technical analyst working on the IPS project you’ll have the opportunity to help drive the technical development of preservation planning, representation information, and technology watch infrastructure services in order to help ensure the long-term preservation of the Library’s digital collections.
Possessing excellent research and analytical skills, you will be confident in applying your technical expertise and growing understanding of digital preservation to investigate relevant challenges, understand technical requirements, and identify and propose solutions for the project. Your strong software development skills will enable you to act upon your findings and quickly develop and debug the necessary components and services to successfully meet the digital preservation challenges faced. Working alongside other digital preservation and Library colleagues, you will be well-organised, able to demonstrate excellent team-working and communication skills, and be able to convey your interest in the long term preservation of our digital heritage collections. You will have the ability to work closely with other team members, but also the motivation and drive to deliver independently as required.
