To Infinity and Beyond: a time travel journey around Digital Preservation

11.00am – 11.20am AEST

RIMPA Event Promo 2

Jump aboard the time traveller express as we navigate our way back through time to assess the development of Digital Preservation as a discipline.  Bethany will unpack how the advent of digital transformation has promoted digital preservation as an integral and exceedingly necessary component within modern records management.  From the arrival of SCCS in 1972 through to the Digital Preservation Coalition and their ground-breaking work today, this tour around the history of digital preservation will open your eyes to a discipline that is right on the cutting edge between the past, present and future.

Presenter: Dr Bethany Sinclair-Giardini

Dr Bethany Sinclair-Giardini is the Vice President of RIMPA Victorian Branch and also President for the Victorian Local Government Chapter, as well as serving as a committee member on the Municipal Association of Victoria's Information Governance Committee.  Following a stint at Monash after her migration from the UK, Bethany joined the Shire of Yarra Ranges as Digital Archivist in 2018.  She constantly advocates for better integration and education of digital preservation within mainstream records management, as well as teaching both Digital Archiving and Digital Preservation for RIMPA, and guest lecturing at Curtin University.  Currently hurtling towards the end of her third decade in the profession, Bethany is a consummate information governance professional and one of the most highly qualified archivists working in Australian government today.
