Personal Membership

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Personal membership has been introduced for a trial period from 1st August 2010.  It permits attendance at all public events supported by the DPC, priority access to DPC publications and it enables members to apply for funds from the DPC Leadership programme to attend designated training events.  Personal members will be invited as observers to the Annual General Meeting of the Coalition.  Because this is a trial period, personal members will also be asked to participate in a review toward the end of the year in order that personal membership can be fully integrated into the constitution of the Coalition. In the first year, personal membership will be capped at 25 members.

Eligibility

Personal membership is intended to support those who make a significant contribution to digital preservation and who, for reasons of personal or professional circumstance, are not able to participate by other means.  This includes sole traders, the staff of small consultancies, specialists between contracts, recent graduates (within 12 months of graduating), retired specialists and scholars on sabbatical.  There is no geographical restriction to personal membership.

Personal membership is conferred on individuals of good standing who through their studies, research and work make or expect to make a contribution to ensuring our digital memory is available tomorrow. Members are required to abide by the values of the Coalition and are encouraged to be active participants in its work.

Staff and affiliates of DPC’s organizational members enjoy the same benefits as personal members with significant advantages so applicants are recommended to check the list of current members before applying. Affiliates and staff of organizational members will not be granted personal membership.  Applicants employed by organisations with a specific interest in digital preservation or with more than 5 full time permanent staff (or equivalent) are not normally eligible though are invited to discuss an application with the officers of the Coalition.

Personal membership is limited to 25 people in the first year and these will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

The Board of the Coalition has the right to rule on the eligibility of applications.
